The First Friday Denton on June 2nd will kick off summer with several stops for some art and music in Downtown Denton studios and businesses.  Make First Friday your first stop for summer fun. First Friday hours are from 6-9 pm and stops vary each month. This month be sure to stop in A Creative Art Studio, The Ghost Note, Greater Denton Arts Council, Mellow Mushroom, Discover Denton Welcome Center and see Denton Artists Enclave Pop Up Art Show at Agua Dulce Mexican Kitchen.

First Friday Denton hosts a full night on March 3rd

Join other art lovers in the community as they stroll through downtown Denton stopping at the various art studios and stores participating in First Friday Denton.  Some stops feature hands-on art, others have some fun activities for you to enjoy along the route.  Check out the details below.

Greater Denton Arts Council kicks off Texas History Month – 

The stars will be big and bright this  at Greater Denton Arts Council in the PAAC, corner of Bell and E. Hickory,  as they kick off the First Friday in March celebrating Texas History Month featuring traditional to contemporary artistic traditions of Texas. Enjoy family art activities, a marshmallow roast around the campfire, and much more! Free event on March 3rd from 6 – 9:30 pm in partnership with Center for the Advancement and Study of Early Texas Art (CASETA).


March First Friday at SCRAP Denton, corner of Bell and Prairie St. will be the opening reception for “Reclaimed,” a collection of assemblages featuring re-imagined images from photo slides found at SCRAP Denton. All of the work is made by Denton ISD’s  ATC Commercial Photography students. The event will feature an art show with all pieces for sale, a FREE make & take craft, and refreshments.

Join us for March First Friday at DIME Handmade, on S. Locust just a few blocks from the square. DIME is hosting Matt Sallack of Otter Illustration premiering and signing Keeping Denton Beautiful: A 30-Year Anniversary Coloring Book! This sweet coloring book is a partnership between Otter Illustration and Keep Denton Beautiful! As always, refreshing beverages provided during this First Friday stop from 6-8 p.m.

Artists Enclave of Denton County and 7 Feathers Denton invite First Friday attendees to this event, themed “Lend me your ears.” To learn more come to the Enclave Royale Poetry Slam on  March 3, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Agua Dulce Mexican Kitchen – Walnut Street Annex.  Celebrate the existing and ever growing poetry community in Denton with this special event featuring: Enclave Royale host, spoken-word artist Joaquin Zihuatanejo; ten local poets and curator, published author and poet Nancy K. Carpenter. The Enclave Royale is sponsored by Anadara Designs.  Cash prizes and the crowning of the 2017 Poet Royale.  General admission is $5.

A Creative Art STUDIO, 227 W. Oak St.,  has a fun First Friday planned and you are invited. This First Friday features Texas-based solo acoustic guitar master Darrin Kobetich. He classifies his sound as “ambient delta raga thrash grass,” but that’s just scratching the surface. The studio will also be featuring woodworking artist Jonathan Sutton who will be demonstrating wood carving. Participate in the community art project, check out the beautiful new art, or listen to music from 7 pm – 9:30 pm

Stop by the Discover Denton Welcome Center, 111 W. Hickory St.,  to see the featured guest animals from Frank Buck Zoo between 6 and 8 p.m..  Audacity Brew House will also be in the house.

Be sure to run by Mellow Mushroom on East Hickory from 6 pm to 8 pm and spin the prize wheel for a chance to win Mellow goodies.

February’s First Friday Activities

First Friday plans are set at stops this Friday, February 3rd in downtown Denton.  An anniversary celebration, opening reception for a fantastic art exhibit and music along the way make for a nice way to show love for the arts in Denton this February. See below for information on all the stops.

Congrats to SCRAP Denton on it’s 5 Year Anniversary!  Join the celebration from 6-8 pm with live music by Nicholas Morgan, a Denton ISD Elementary Art Show and free make and take crafts (La La Letters: DIY Valentines).  Enter drawings and enjoy refreshments when you stop in their place at Bell and Prairie streets to celebrate with them.  For more information SCRAP Denton, please visit

The  Patterson-Appleton Arts Center kicks off the first Friday evening of the month with the opening reception of the 30th Annual Materials: Hard + Soft International Contemporary Craft Competition & Exhibition presented in partnership with the Greater Denton Arts Council in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.  The reception is from 6 – 8 p.m. The center is located right at the corner of Bell and E. Hickory in downtown.

This exhibit is recognized as one of the premier craft exhibitions in the country.  It was started in 1987 and was initiated by area artist Georgia Leach Gough. Now in its 30th year, the exhibition opens to international artists as we celebrate the evolving field of contemporary craft and the remarkable creativity and innovation of artists who push the boundaries of their chosen media.

The exhibit is on view February 4 – May 6, 2017, Patterson-Appleton Arts Center (PAAC)

DIME Hand Made invites you to drop in for the First Friday of 2017 at 6 pm on January 6th and make your own color sheet with your goals and plans for 2017. There is also complimentary champagne for those 21 and older.  What a great way to kick off a new year with a toast  and anew creation of your own. DIME Store is located on S. Locust Street just a few blocks south of the Downtown Denton Square.

Most First Friday stops will be hosting events again on the first Friday in February with some cool art for you to experience.  Bring your friends and head downtown to check out this stop and many other stores that are open Friday evening.

So many stops to make during the evening of First Friday Denton this November 4th.  Here are the suggestions on who and what to see:


Bearded Monk at 122 W. McKinney Street, in conjunction with, will host a Tapping of beers with the owners of Braindead Brewing. DentonRadio will interview Sam Wynn and Jeff Fryeman at 7pm and they’ll be hanging out at Bearded Monk all before their momentous 2nd Anniversary Festicle party.

SCRAP x UNT CVAD invites everyone to join them for a First Friday art show featuring UNT’s College of Visual Arts and Design students’ soft sculptures! Come check out the best and brightest of design students’ work – all sculptures will be available to buy and take. Stop by SCRAP Denton this Friday, Nov. 4th, 6pm to 8pm at 420 S.
