It’s this week y’all! Check out the gallery show opening at SCRAP Denton. Artwork illustration on dictionary pages – plus beer and a make and take valentine craft!
First Friday is a monthly event that happens in downtown Denton. Many businesses are open late and host gallery openings, music, sales, and other family friendly fun. Check out www.firstfridaydenton.com for more information and like us on Facebook.
Join us for a special Steampunk edition of First Friday Denton on Feb 7th, 2014. Our featured art of the evening include metal sculptures by Daren Fagen, Beaded jewelry by Terri Richards and Steampunk jewelry by Debbie Waldrop. Daren, Debbie and Terri will be on hand to talk about their art and do some demonstrating of some of their techniques.
Our music starts at 7 with the sounds of singer/ songwriter, Daniel Ziegler followed at 7:45 by The New Rainbows. Daniel’s music is from the heart and his lyrics are inspired by nature and his surroundings. He performs in a variety of styles: from rock to acoustic performances and teaches songwriting as well as guitar. The New Rainbows are an eclectic group composed of the very accomplished Alyse Hashi on flute and Robert Hokamp on guitar.
Bailey Parrish, our “dollar a minute” sketch artist will be on hand to draw your portrait. The average portrait time is about 20 minutes. We will have our community art project which will also have a Steampunk twist. Feel free to dress in steampunk theme. Think Victorian meets industrial age meets Wild Wild West and sprinkle on a little Star Trek borg.
Grab that aviator hat with goggles, vest and bowtie, corset or top hat and come on down to the studio. Best Steampunk Costume wins $20 gift certificate from the studio. (Note: You don’t have to dress up to attend.) Grab a friend and come join the fun.
The DIME Store Grand Opening First Friday Festivities March 29, 2013
Denton, Texas – DIME (the Denton Independent Maker Exchange) is opening its brick and mortar store in Downtown Denton this first Friday, April 5th. First Friday Festivities include complimentary wine and cheese and live letterpress printing from Triple Threat Press. The Pickled Carrot, a Denton food truck selling Vietnamese Bahn Mi sandwich, will also be on site. Customers of the store that make a purchase of $25 or more will receive a free DIME sticker pack, including a car decal and four mini decals.
The DIME Store will house handmade goods from 25+ Denton artists, carrying products such as handcrafted furniture, handmade jewelry, vintage clothing, handmade bags, and more. The store is located at 510 S. Locust in a converted 1950s home and has the nostalgic flair of a five and dime shop.
The DIME Store is owned and curated by Shelley Christner and Rachel Aughtry, both artists and residents of Denton.
Shelley and Rachel originally began DIME in 2010 under the moniker “Etsy Denton” to promote a community among local artists that sell their work on Etsy.com. Etsy Denton held several large craft fairs at the Center for Visual Arts before changing the name to DIME and announcing the opening of the store in early 2013.
The Grand Opening festivities continue on Saturday with a cookout, beer from the local brewers at Armadillo Ale, and a free DIME tote to the first ten shoppers.
First Friday hours are 6:00pm – 9:00pm. Saturday hours are 10:00am – 6:00pm. Regular hours begin Tuesday, April 9th and are Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00am – 6:00pm.
