UNT On The Square

Posted By admin on February 2, 2012

UNT On The Square is having a wonderful retrospective look at UNT faculty members from 1890-1980. I know one of the artists, Richard Davis, whose work is featured there while there are probably many more that anyone involved with UNT Art programs over the years would recognize.

Be sure to stop in and check it out.

A Creative Art Studio

Posted By admin on February 2, 2012

Join us for First Friday Denton at A Creative Art STUDIO. This First Friday we are very proud to have Darrin Kobetich performing in the Studio from 7 – 9 pm. Darrin, is a Texas based solo acoustic guitar master who classifies his sound as “ambient delta raga thrash grass”. He has provided music for theatrical presentations at Hop Pocket Theatre in Fort Worth and has self released three CDs. His music is truly amazing.
This week we add a Creative Writing twist to our event. Robin Jansen, published local author, joins the Friday fun as the “5 Minute Novelist”. After sharing a few facts with Robin, individuals will then have their personal novel written in five minutes. Tips are appreciated. Crystal Nelson, Emile Stewart and Linka Behn, local artists, will be demonstrating art techniques in the studio. Visitors to the studio will be able to make their mark on the community art painting or make a miniature artwork on a ATF (artist Trading card) and then trade for the artwork of another.
Our beautiful Mural created by Mick Burson is now complete. You can view the mural on the west side of the studio as well as Mick’s artwork on display in the gallery. We are also hoping to show the wonderful short film by Mike Carpenter of the making of the mural. Music, art, fun and friends…..sounds like a happening to me.

NOTEThe FFD site is acting a bit unusual. You will not be able to post or call out individual stories until we get it fixed.

NT Daily Interview

Posted By admin on January 31, 2012

We had a wonderful interview with Nadia Hill from the North Texas Daily today, and it looks like First Friday Denton will be the main feature in this Friday’s NT Daily.

Thanks to Robin Huttash at A Creative Art Studio for making “First Friday Denton” the header for her poster promoting this Friday’s event. Robin is a great example for all of us who are a a part of First Friday Denton. If you want to see “how it’s done,” or how it can be done – set aside some time this Friday evening to go by A Creative Art Studio and see what’s happening there.

Anytime anyone who is a part of First Friday Denton wants to use the event name First Friday Denton to promote goings on at their venue – feel free to do so.

Keep your announcements coming in, as we will be wrapping up the posts midnight Wednesday.

Two Years On

Posted By admin on January 25, 2012

Well January marks the completion of two years for the event known as First Friday Denton. And what an amazing and uplifting two years it has been for those still involved with First Friday Denton.

Two years ago, the country was still in the midst of an economic meltdown of epic proportions, but with virtually nothing to lose, and everything to gain, we rolled the dice with a new event; a grassroots grown event that has to this day received no funding of any sort by the City of Denton, or its participants. It just goes to show you some good things just can’t be bought.

While the FFD site continues to evolve, and businesses come and go as they always have, one thing remains constant – First Friday Denton is still the premiere ongoing monthly event happening in Denton, Texas. I hope you are as proud to be a part of it as I still am.

FFD still has needs; a logo, art and printing of participants posters would be on my wish list for this year. We are emphasizing the needrequirement for incoming links from everyone who has links reaching them from this site. Those should be in by the end of February, and you can e mail me with your url (where the link is found) at your earliest convenience. It doesn’t cost anything, and if you need help with your website – building, rebuilding or adding a link – be sure to let me know, and I will make that happen for you.

Website design of all sorts is available from me, and you can find more information about that here – Shannon Drawe Photography Website Design Service. I would much rather toot your horns, so feel free to send in your articles, photography, featured items, coupons and anything else you like so that I can get it on the site in time for February’s First Friday. If you have any Valentine themed artwork – SEND IT IN!
