Artists Enclave of Denton County will host its first ever Pop-Up Art Exhibition: Enclave Eclectic on Friday, June 3rd from 6 to 10 p.m. at Walnut Street Annex – Sweetwater Grill and Tavern in Downtown Denton.  The exhibit features 2-dimensional works by a select representation of Denton’s outstanding community of established and emerging artists.  Painting, drawing, prints, photography and mixed medium await arts enthusiasts and you can even buy it if you love it! A percentage of sales will benefit the Artists Enclave. The event is free and open to all ages.

Stop by to congratulate the artists and organizations receiving the Greater Denton Arts Council grants at the Center for Visual Arts on Friday from 6-8 p.m.


DIME Store will have a sneak preview of their 3rd annual sidewalk sale on Friday night with complimentary beverages while you shop and save. Local art and craft vendors will have their treasures available on sale and more. Stop in between 6 and 9 p.m.  Friday.

Mellow Mushroom always has some First Friday fun for you if you stop in to spin the prize wheel!

Welcome in summertime with music and art at A Creative Art STUDIO, 227 W. Oak, Ste. 101. Music will be provided by Stiggy and Friends and they will have a smorgasbord of original and fav tunes that you are sure to like. Think of an evening with Dylan, Beatles, Hank Williams Jr, Jimmy Buffet, Buddy Holly… Well, you get the idea. Come see the new works of featured artist Robin Huttash and check out the works of their other gallery artists. Music starts at 7 pm. Grab a friend and come join the fun at A Creative Art STUDIO. This event is free.

Friday Friday Fun for May

First Friday is May 6th in Downtown Denton.  Check out the many stops and bring your friends to do some “Dentoning” the Friday Friday way.  First Friday stops are along the West Oak Street, East Hickory and Elm/Walnut area this month.

Shop, shop, shop and enjoy 25-50% off at Circa 77 Vintage at 227A W. Oak Street open until 8 pm. or when the party is over.  Then, stop in for Moms and Mimosas at Vintage Bleu Home next door where the fun starts at 4 p.m. and runs through 9 p.m.. Come check out guest vendors, vendor sales, and a FB giveaway that starts next week.  In store vendor sales will be Friday and Saturday.

A Creative Art Studio, 227 W. Oak invites you to join the fun and come see the work of 40 artists that are currently showing at the studio and check out Kid Art from some of the children in our art classes. This month music is provided by UVER, a local group who’s music can be described as poetry therapy lyrics set to melodic rock/pop. The group was formed by musician Fritz Schwalm who writes many of the songs and does vocals and guitar. Other members of the group are Chuck Voellinger, vocals,bass, Ann MacMillan, drums, and Joe Stack, guitar. There will also be a community Art Project set up for all to work on. Grab a friend and come downtown. Hours are 6-9 p.m.

Head on down to Elm/Walnut and East Hickory areas for more fun, mixing, mingling and entertainment.

The Artists Enclave of Denton County celebrates its 6-month anniversary as an innovative arts organization with a May Mixer Meetup combining a Happy Hour Mixer at Downtown Denton’s Sweetwater Grill and Tavern–Walnut Street Annex. The Sweetwater Happy Hour Mixer begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Walnut StreetAnnex (115 East Elm Street) with complimentary appetizers and drink specials.

Then head over to the Artist Enclave Meetup at the Greater Denton Arts Council’s Opening Reception for International Nightscapes: Recent Works by Bob Chilton at the Patterson-Appleton ArtsCenter (400 East Hickory Street). The Artists Enclave Meetup for the Bob Chilton photography exhibit reception kicks off at 7:00 p.m. and concludes at 8:00 p.m. The GDAC reception will open for the general public at 6:30 p.m. For more information about the exhibit, visit

There is no admittance fee for either the Mixer or Meetup. The whole community is invited to this celebratory evening.

First Friday at the DIME Store has a special treat in store!  WILDlife Coloring Book from Otter Illustration is ready to hit the shelves. This book features 101 original animal drawings created by Matthew Gordon Sallack. Come check out “The WILDlife Coloring Book (extra WILD edition), which is a deluxe version with 101 different animals, including mammals, amphibians, reptiles, fish, insects, and other invertebrates.

Be one of the first people to get the book and meet illustrator, Matthew Gordan Sallack of Otter Illustration, who will be on hand autographing copies and giving out freebies with the purchase of the book.

Artists Enclave of Denton County will be at Sweetwater Grill & Tavern from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. hosting an inaugural EGGS-ibition and silent auction. Bid on some beautiful handcrafted ceramic eggs painted by over 30 local artists, businesses and civic leaders. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit Denton High School Family Assistance Foundation/Denton High Cares.

A Creative Art Studio is always open on First Friday from 7 – 9:30 pm.. This evening also kicks off Spring Open House Weekend in downtown Denton. The featured artist of the month is painter Chase Gentry. Chase also has made prints of his work and will have a special sale on his prints during First Friday. Music by The Pearl Snap Shirts starts a little after 7. Come try hand at painting for $5 a canvas or join in on the community painting. The event is free.

West Oak and Square Area and East, beyond the Square:

Vintage Bleu Home will be open until 9 pm and will be serving refreshments. Come check out the vendors and some awesome vintage stuff.

This Friday night the some of downtown merchants had Spring Open House Sneak Peek and will be open for extended hours to shop.  See Garden Gate and The Palm Tree Boutique on Elm Street and Serendipity on the Square on Oak Street who are all open until 8 p.m.  And, just beyond the square will be Weldon’s Saddle Shop & Western Wear and Twice as Nice ReSale open until 7 p.m..

Kick off the month and share the love for the arts by visiting the many stops Friday night, February 5th at First Friday Denton.  A steam punk costume and art event, open-mic poetry night, opening reception of Materials Hard + Soft, and stops with sweet treats, make & take crafts, along with live music are all in store for a fantastic evening.  Downtown is the heart of the arts in Denton.

Spoken-word artist Joaquin Zihuatanejo will be the guest host for “Love Me. Love Me Not: An Evening of Poems about Adoration and Heartache” from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Walnut Street Annex of Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm Street.  Artist Enclave also welcomes special guest Joshua Butler of Thin Line Film Festival and will have valentine treats from She & Bee Confectionary.

Greater Denton Arts Council

The Greater Denton Arts Council proudly presents the 29th annual Materials: Hard + Soft National Contemporary Craft Competition at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, corner of Bell and E. Hickory.

Recognized as one of the premier craft exhibitions in the country, this year’s call for submissions drew over 800 entries by artists from over 40 states. Juror Elizabeth Kozlowski, former curator of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, has selected over 60 works for this year’s exhibition. To learn more, visit
