E.T. and the Dreamcatchers
Get Ready Denton! It’s time to make your way by A Creative Art STUDIO Friday, August 1st. You are invited to join the studio for a celebration of the arts with music and Art Opening at A Creative Art STUDIO. The event begins at 7:00 pm with E.T. and the Dreamcatchers, The Dream Catchers is a collaboration of cover songs/mash-ups and original compositions by singer-songwriter Erin Thelen. Inspired by artists such as Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, and Nickel Creek, The Dreamcatchers focus on haunting harmonies mixed with percussive elements. This soulful, folk, and acoustic group of UNT music students and alumnus enjoys performing in the Denton community.
Following the Dreamcatchers, will be the performance of The Fleurettes, comprised of musicians Alexandra Tayara and Richard Haskins. Alexandria and Richard will perform individually as well as a duet.
Featured Artist of the month is printmaker and mixed media artist Crystal Nelson. Crystal teaches art in Lewisville ISD as well at the studio. Come see her latest work and other work carried by the studio, listen to music, do some art or just hang out and make some new friends.
Join A Creative Art STUDIO for music, art and fun during First Friday Denton, April 4, 7 – 10 pm. This month their music is provided by Oui Bis, a group of local musicians that feature a variety of styles of music including the American Old Time tradition as well as Irish, Scottish and English folk dance music. Their performance will include a mix of Old Standards (that is to say jazz from the early to mid 20th century), Latin American jazz tunes of various sorts, Balkan and Slavic tunes and a handful of original tunes that might lean heavily on all of the above. Members of the group include Steve Prouty, Leon Peek, George Merritt, Maristella Feustle, Allison Cami and Steve Horn.
Be sure and check out their new art show featuring Denton resident, Aurora Cabrera. AURORA is primarily a self taught artist. She was born and raised in Oaxaca, the Mexican contemporary art mecca. Aurora approaches her artwork with passion and intensity. She sees the world through brilliant colors. She creates bold painted furniture, vibrant watercolors, mixed media, and shadow boxes. She paints what she loves – nature and Mexican symbolism. Today she is a Denton resident, creating at home and raising her boys. “I have been dancing for 23 years with my art and my family, always putting my family first, but my art is part of me”.
Bailey Parrish returns as A Creative Art STUDIO’s $1 a minute portrait artist and Crystal Nelson and Tina Alvarez demonstrates art techniques.

Friday February 1, First Friday @ Banter Bistro
6pm – Alex Blair – awesome jazz vocalist with Austin Byrd on keys!
8pm – The Future Eyes
“The Future Eyes were formed in 2011 as four friends came together to put a live sound to the extensive catalog of Denton based singer/songwriter Kelbe Schrank (pronounced, “shronk”), including two previous self-produced albums. The result has been an entirely new true collaborative effort, with Schrank still the primary songwriter, but with new found energy and a dynamic genre-bending sound; an amalgam of indie rock and folk with veins of blues and funk streaking through. With the bold beats and rich harmonies of James Grisham, evocative bass lines of John Oliviera and soaring guitar crescendos of Jason Cook, The Future Eyes leave contrails across the minds of listeners.”
10pm – Ellie Meyer – “Ellie Meyer is an up and coming artist into the music scene, with vocals and song lyrics that will make you want to listen for more. All of her songs are based on life experiences and inspirations that either Ellie, herself, or those around her have experienced”, DentonRadio.com
Also we have an art exhibit of sketches by local artist Bryan Kelly. The show represents one year of daily sketches by Denton based illustrator Bryan Kelly. This collection includes all 365 sketches posted between February 10th 2011 and February 10th 2012. These sketches were initially posted, with captions, on his website, bryankellyillustrations.com and on his facebook account also called Bryan Kelly Illustrations. Bryan continues to post sketches five times a week, Monday through Friday. The Friday sketch is presented as a full color illustration.
